Internet Stuff
The Internet is many things to many people with something new and amazing coming out every day. For artists it is a big opportunity. I know artists displaying their artwork through graphics, paintings, short stories, even novels, ezines, diaries, software creations, games, poetry, and the list is too long. I wonder if it could work for literary artwork to be offered like shareware? If you liked the book or poetry collection, then you would pay for it.

Senaka La Palme and I wrote a short story called to fly... to be... to love.... The short story collaboration took about a month back and forth via email. I took the dragon character while Senaka wrote the human character. We were pleasantly surprised at how well the short story turned out. It is http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Corridor/1017/webdoc176.htm. The short story is also featured on the ezine called The Outer Rim at http://outer-rim.lweb.net.

Terri really is a paint artist mostly. She does poetry as a way of dealing with life. For whatever reason she writes poetry, it is evidently clear she writes it well. Her poems are full of distinct life images.

Hockey Puck
The National Hockey League enters into its stretch run. The games are hotly contested and beginning to resemble playoff games. The hockey super stars are proving their worth. Pavel Bure plays for the Florida Panthers now. He scored a lot of goals as the Panthers won a bunch of games. Other teams and players are doing just as well.

The Nashville Predators are doing rather well for a first-year expansion team. The new Columbus team in Ohio certainly has hope for next season, when they begin playing. Pittsburgh Penguins are doing really great considering they owe everybody money, even the hall-of-fame bound Mario Lemieux. Mario is trying to get ownership of the team before Pittsburgh loses its team. The Ottawa Senators are getting stronger every day and are Canada's best hopes for the playoffs coming soon.

Cat/Bean Special Days
Abby was born March 17, 1997. She was part of a litter that was too much for the human beings to handle. So she went to SPCA in Tampa. I was looking for a kitten that could be spayed right away. I saw lots of black cats and was close to getting one, but Abby was playing actively in her cage. She captured my heart that day and saved her life. Please spay and neuter your pets.

Ebony was born May 6, 1996 and was wanted even before she was born. I wanted a black cat, because they are so hard to adopt. She was the only black female. I got her when she was only a month old, and she was a small bundle of energy and cried most of the first night. That was the last lonely night she had though. She is been intertwined in my life so deeply and completely now.

Diss is Ebony and I pawed dee records to finds out dat President Ronald Reagan did proudly commissioned Larry, our human bean, a naval officer in March 1, 1987. I not nose why day did dat considering he is such a special human bean to us, but why Navy finks he could be commissioned?

Cat Chat 1-12-99
Hi! Dis is Mew Emily…

And Harry Meow! We have had nothing exciting at all happen this week, which is just the way us cats like it!

Emily: Yous said a moufful dar, Harry. So, us has decided to tell yous all about tings we wike to do, and tings we don't wike.

Harry: Exactly. For instance, one of our favorite games is Meow and Chase. Usually we start this by me biting Emily…

Emily: He don't bite me furry hard. He just nip, and den we play fight, and den me runs and runs…

Harry: And I chase her. She always hides, but not furry well. I can always see her, but I pretend I can't, so them I meow and meow real loud…

Emily: And den finally me comes out and runs again, and Harry chases me again, and den I hide again…

Harry: And then I meow again. It is a furry fun game, and we play it inside a lot and outside too. But sometimes when we play it inside Mom gets mad cause she says she is trying to sleep!

Emily: My don't know why human beans don't take catnaps wike us kitties do. But no instead day sleep long long at night, and don't play or eat or nothin!

Harry: Well, that brings up another favorite thing we do, which is Wake Up Mom To Feed Us And Let Us Out. First I meow real loud, and if that doesn't work sometimes I jump up on the bed and stick my nose in her face…

Emily: And me walk up and lay on her belly wike she wike so she can scritch me! So she scritch us some, den she roll and stretch wike us kitties do and say: "I'm getting up, I'm getting up…"

Harry: But she usually doesn't right away. Sometimes it takes us long and long to get her up and out of bed so we can eat and go out. But it's nice to have that time in the morning to snuggle and get scritch-scratched.

Emily: It be nice, fur sure (puuurrr). Me lub habing me ears scritched…

Harry: And I love having my belly rubbed. It feels soo furry good!

Emily: Merow!! Me hates that! Me bites Mom when she try to rub my belly! It not nice at all. Ooo! But anoder fun morning game is Feet Under Da Cobers!

Harry: I don't play that…

Emily: That cause you be an old fuddy-duddy, Harry! Mom will move her feet under da cobers, and me will chase them and bite them. It lots of fun, and me get furry excited when we play dat, but den usually Harry come ruin it cause he want to play Meow and Chase…

Harry: Well, it's a much funner game! Besides, Mom isn't getting up when you are playing Feet Under The Covers, and the point in the morning is to get her up!

Emily: Well, dat be true! Anyway, anoder favorite game is playing wid da milk rings…

Harry: Meow, yes! That is always fun. We have milk rings all over the house, heehee! Sometimes Mom picks some of them up, but there are always lots more.

Emily: Day slide around da floor real good, and we chew on dem and attack dem, like day were mousies…

Harry: Miss Priss, who is at Rainbow Bridge now, used to throw them up in the air with one claw and catch them again. It was funny to watch! I can't do that, but I bat them around real good, fur sure! My favorite toy is shoestrings, tho…

Emily: Oooo, Oooo, me loves playing wid da string dat tied to da kitchen chair is wid a bell, especially when Mom is pretending to sleep--heehee

Harry: I like is better when Mom plays with me. She pulls it along the floor, and I chase it and bite it…

Emily: You don't chase da string no more Harry! You jus lay dar and catch it wid your claws and teeth!

Harry tom tom!Harry: Well, I'm retired. I can play Shoestring any way I want!

Emily: Humph! And yous call melazy! Oh, speaking of lazy, somthin we doesn't wike is lazy freeloading cats…

Harry: You hit the cat on the tail, there, Em! There are several cats in out neighborhood who have homes, but want to come into OurTerritory and get Mom to feed them! Well, I don't put up with that fur a minute, fur sure!

Emily: Yeah, Harry a good cat chaser awayer. Me jus hide.

Harry: Sometimes the cats won't take a hint and won't leave and we start merow-yeowling at each other. Then Mom comes out with her Big Stick and pounds it on the steps and it makes a big noise and the cats run run--heehee!

Emily: The oder things dat come into Our Territory dat we don't wike…

Harry: But they don't come furry often…

Emily: Is nasty doggies! Most of da doggies around here is in fences, wike day should be, but sometime a couple will into Our Territory wander, jus wike it theirs!

Harry: And they know it's not! I chase them some, but sometimes they is not nice atall and try to chase me, so I hide under the trailer…

Emily: I hide under dar too already! Mom da best doggie chaser. She take her big stick and run after dem yelling. She neber eben hab to get close to dem, cause dem doggies be cowards and run run wid dar tails between dar legs!

Harry: Yes, heehee. It is furry fun to watch dem smelly doggies run away. The man bean who used to live here…

Emily: Mom's un-huband?

Harry: ex-huband. Yes, that's him. Well, he used to get made at her cause he said that the doggies would bite her. But Mom knows that doggies won't bite if they aren't in their own territory and the bean is not fearing of them.

Emily: Dat un-huband bean sure weren't furry smart, were he, if he not know dat!

Harry: No, he wasn't. I think maybe that's why he's not here anymore. One time late late in dark night he come home smelling of icky stuff with a strange man bean and a nasty doggie and brought them both into the house! Peanut Butter was still alive then, and he jumped up on the refrigerator. I never saw Peanut jump so fast! Mom was furry furry mad at that ex-husband bean and said she would call the Po-leese, so the strange bean and the nasty doggie left. And not too many moons after, ex-husband bean left too.

Emily: Me not member dat too well atall…

Harry: That's cause you were just a little kitty then. Now we a happy happy house have with me and Mom and Emily! We keep each other safe and warm and have furry much fun together!

Emily: Yes, we owns a furry nice happy house, us kitties and our Mom bean (puurrr). What? Oh, Mom say we bin pawing too much and need to let her use da puter. Paw to you next week. Purrs and Snuggles from Emily Mew…

Cat Chat 1-26
Hi! This is Meow Harry…

And Emily Mew! Harry say me need to say I instead of me more, so me…I am gonna try…

Harry: Well, like we thought, Mom put up the tables with the legs that grow out of them, and the beans came over and played guitar…

Emily: Me, ermmm, I hid.

Harry: It was fun, sort of. I went and sang with them some…

Emily: I hid.

Harry: And I tried to get in Mom's lap, but she wouldn't move her guitar…

Emily: I hid.

Harry: Then I went outside fur a while…

Emily: I ran through da living room once, and den hid in da back room.

Harry: You're just a scaredy kitty, Em!

Emily: Me am not! Me, um, I jus don't like strange beans in my house!

(long pause) Harry: Well, that's all that happened this week…

Chester: You can't just write that and end your column! You're going to lose your fans!

Emily: Harry, tell us about some of da oder kitties you lived wid before me…I…came to our house.

Harry: That's a good idea. What story should we tell?

Emily: Oh! Oh! Tell dem about Peanut Butter and da Celicie!

Harry: Heehee. That's a furry funny story, tho Peanut didn't think it was at all funny at the time. You see, when Mom had that un-husband man bean living with her, they had two cars, a Celica and…

Emily: And a little truck! Mom jus hab one car now, da Honda. What happened to da Celicie?

Harry: The man bean went crazy and sold it fur a piece of junk, Mom says. She was furry upset…

Chester: What about Peanut Butter?

Harry: Oh, ok. Well, one day, well, let me say first that Peanut Butter liked to sleep in the back of the Celica, in what Mom called the hatched back, cause it was furry warm back there cause of the sun…

Emily: I like to sleep in the warm sun too, but not in a car!!

Harry: Me either, but Peanut was such a silly kitty, even if he was my brother. Anyway, one day, Mom and the man bean went off fur the whole day. I was outside. They rolled up those window glass things in the Celica and drove away with the truck…

Emily: And day didn't know dat Peanut were in da back of da Celicie, right?

Harry: Right. So they came back home, and they called us to eat. Miss Priss was with us too, and Fuzzy Bear and Tinker, but Peanut wouldn't come. They called and called and still Peanut wouldn't come.

Chester: Didn't they look for him?

Harry: Of course, they looked, and they called, but they didn't think about looking in the back of the Celica, and then it started to rain and thunder. Now, Peanut, he hates thunder just like me, so they were sure he would come in, but he never did. They thought maybe he was at someone else's house fur the night, cause in those days we sometimes would stay out all night. I had a house where this nice lady would give me yummy things to eat and hug and snuggle with me, and then the next day Mom would be mad cause I smelled like purr-fume….

Emily: Did Peanut go there too?

Harry: No, and Mom was furry worried, but she didn't know what to do with the rain and the thunder and the dark, cause Peanut almost never stayed out all night. Not as much as me, anyway. So that morning, Mom woke up and thought, "I bet Peanut is in the car…"

Emily: And he was!

Harry: Yes, purr Peanut. Mom went out to the Celica and there was Peanut Butter at the window going "Meoowww, Meeooowww!!!!" Which meant "Help me. Help me!" Then she let him out and made a big fuss over him and he kept saying "Meeooww, meeooww!!!"

Emily: And she give him lots of good stuff to eat…

Harry: Of course she did, and even while he was eating he was saying, "meoooowww, meeoowww," except it was muffled cause his mouth was full of food.

Emily: Heehee. And den he follow Mom around da house all day, didn't he, and kept saying…

Harry: "Meeooww, meeooww!" Heehee. I felt furry sorry fur Peanut, but even he thought it was funny, after a few many moons had gone by, cause all he could do all day is say: "Meeooww, Meoowww!--help me help me!"

Emily: Heehee, purr Peanut! I sorry for him dat dat happen, but he sound like a furry silly cat. Did he eber sleep in the Celicie again?

Harry: Yes, all the time! But Mom and the man bean were always careful after that to look in the Celica before they left!

Chester: (chuckling) That was a good story, Harry. What a silly brother you had.

Harry: Yes, he was, but he was a good friend too. He is much smarter now that he is an angel kitty. He never sleeps in cars anymore, but sometimes he comes back and sleeps with me, specially when it is rainy and thundery...

Emily: Yeah, Peanut be a nice angel kitty, but Mom don't listen to him enuff when he tell her to gib me more yum-yums…

Harry: He never tells her that! You're the silly kitty now!

Emily: Heehee. Ummm, me, errm…I think it be time fur kitchen patrol now!

Harry: It's always a good time fur kitchen patrol! Bye from me, Meow Harry…

Emily: And me, Emily Mew!

Chester: Hey, you cats! Save me some chocolate!

Cat Chat 2-4-99
Hi! It's me, Meow Harry...

And me, Emily Mew...

And myself, the great Chester The Dragon, filling in for Ariel Mom!

Emily: Yeah, Mom is furry furry tired, cause her har-drive crasheded, she say. I didn't hear no crish crashing, but she bin working furiously hard on our puter...

Harry: Yes, Poor Mom! She was so frustrated and mad at our puter thing cause it wouldn't work no way no how!! I guess that's why the weather has been so funny--Mom hasn't been taking care of it like she should...

Chester: (clearing throat)

Harry: What, Chester??

Chester: I'm not saying a thing! (laughing behind my paw at the silly cats who think people control the weather)

Harry: Well, anyway, Mom was soooo furry tired that she said Chester could type this column for us. She got a box of Whitman's chocolates for Christmas, and already ate all the ones she liked, so she says Chester can have the rest!

Chester: All chocolate is good! Just as long as it's chocolate!

Emily: Well, dem guitar beans come ober again, and I still hid, but I weren't as mad or scared as before. Except when one wanted to talk to me while I was eating Yum-yums! Of all the nerve!

Harry: I sang with them a little then went outside--at least the second day. The first day Mom made it rain all cold and hard and slikery so we couldn't hardly get back up the steps! But that was only one day. So Mom is doing a pretty good job with the weather. It is sunny and windy mostly.

Emily: And blowing things around all fun like!! I lub chasing da leaves dat blow!

Harry: We have been talking to some of our kitty friends on the web. Pasha, who hasn't pawed to us yet, but who has an article in Ebony and Abby's Journal this moon, she says that we kitties whose beans work so hard for GeoCities, like Mom does, should help out and call ourselves GeoKitties. So I would be GeoHarry and...

Emily: Me don't want to be GeoEmily! Me...um...I is Monster Emily Small Mew! Anyways, we hep Mom wid her webpage alla time, so she can do her Community Leader Important GeoCities stuff. I don't want to change my name!

Harry: Well...I'm not sure I want to be GeoHarry, either. I've been Geharis Harrison for almost eighteen years! Hmmm...I'll think about it...

Emily: Oh! Heehee, Abby bin talking about stealing her beans fancy undies. Me didn't know male beans had fancy undies! Meeheehee!!! Me...I don't neber steal Mom's undies or anything, but I likes to crawl under them. That is furry fun!

Emily in shortsHarry: I never steal Mom's things either...but Fred Purrbox used to steal cigarette packs!

Emily: Who were Fred Purrbox?

Harry: He was a kitty that was around when I was just a little kitty like you, Em. He wasn't furry smart when he got older, though, because he didn't know to stay away from cars, and one day he got hit by one and went to Rainbow Bridge.

Emily: Dat is furry sad! Beans in cars should watch out fur us kitties. Course, we neber get near no road, so we is safe from dem crazy beans.

Chester: Tell us about the cigarette packs, Harry.

Harry: OK. Well, this happened before I was borned, but Miss Priss told me all about it. When Fred Purrbox was a kitten, he liked to fetch crumpldy up cigarette packs. Mom and the un-husband bean both smoked, and always had lots of friends that came over, and they smoked and drank funny smelling stuff out of cans and listened to music and got silly. And so they would crumple up an empty pack, and throw it, and Fred would chase it and bring it back. Then he started doing a trick. See, where we lived then (I was born there, but didn't see Fred do this), the kitchen was furry small. The friger-dater was up against the only counter. Then above the counter there was a cupboard thingy, and next to that a window, and next to that another cupboard. Fred started taking the crumpldy packs up on the far cupboard, so Mom and her friends made a game out of it. One of them would throw a crumpldy pack up on the far cupboard. Then Fred would jump up on the counter, then on the friger-dater, then over to the cupboard. Then he would walk across the curtain rod thingy over to the far cupboard, get the pack, and jump down and bring it to whoever threw it so they would throw it again. He would do that over and over and over, and Miss Priss said Mom and her friends would laugh and laugh. Sometimes Mom would climb up to the far cupboard and there would be forty or fifty crumpldy packs there!

Emily: Heehee! That must hab been funny to watch! What a silly kitty Fred must hab bin. I fetched when I a kitten was, but I neber went to that much trouble!

Chester: You do hide your milk rings and balls...

Emily: Yeah, but that is under tings, not on top ub them! And I'm much to mature to fetch anymore!

Harry: Fred stopped fetching too when he got older. Then he started spraying on the clean dishes, even though Mom had him fixed so he wouldn't spray. Mom would get so furry mad at him and chase him around the house! I never want her that mad at me!

Emily: Why would he do that? Us girl kitties don't spray, but even I know better than to pee-pee anywhere but outside or in da cat box!

Harry: Miss Priss said it was because Fred and his brother Misha weren't furry smart. They never figured out that they should only use the bathroom in the cat box or outside.

Emily: Humph! Any kitten know that! It would hab bin fun to see Fred do his trick, but me...I...is not too sorry I neber met him. I don't think I'd like no kitty dat didn't know any better dan that!

Harry: You are furry lucky, Em. I miss Peanut...

Emily: Me do too...

Harry: And Miss Priss, but it is so furry much better to have just two kitties in our house. This way we get all of Mom's un-invited attention, and she doesn't have to spread it around to lots of other kitties. Mom and the un-husband had fifteen kitties when I was growing up, and that is too many!

Emily: Why did they hab so many kitties, and where did they all go?

Chester: That sounds like a good subject for another time. We're out of chocolate, and Ariel said I couldn't type more than a page and a half, or the column would be too long.

Emily: Chester!!

Harry: Chester is right, for once...

Chester: Humph!

Harry: So we'll save the stories of the other kitties for another time. Besides, we've been talking along time, and I'm getting hungry!

Emily: Me too! Let's go see if Mom is awake so she will give us Yum-yums! Goodbye eberyone! Paw to you next week!

"Between the Mountains and the Dark Stars"
January 25, 1999

Thunder filled the air
Lightning webbed the sky
The moons behind blood red
The mountains ahead cloudy

Darkness descended wearily
The wind moved
Rain fragranced
This summer's eve

Dark and dank
Along the path
A child once were
A life to be

Movement forever
Aware for once
Eyes brimmed with fear
And now body frozen

Between the mountains
Calling ahead
And the dark stars
Singing above

Dreaming child
Eyes fluttering
Visions clear
On the plains

Along the path
Darkness deepening
Between the mountains
And the Dark Stars

In The Park
There are so many special places in the Keys. Seven Mile Bridge is a wonderful way to view the islands and scenery of this wonderful place. Boot Key Harbor is full of all kinds of boats, and I want one. Rachel Key is close to where I live with shallow, warm water and small, tiny islands. It even has an old plane wreck there full of all kinds of fish. Rachel Bank is close by, and you have to be careful you don't run aground there. It is a good place for calm water and swimming or snorkeling. Vaca Cut has very strong currents running through the channel between the gulf and the ocean. The water is much cooler on the ocean side, but it is just as beautiful. And that is just a few places just around Marathon proper. There are too many other adventurous places that will have to be discussed in later journals. Places like Fat Deer Key, huh?

Pigeon Key is connected to the bigger island by the old US1 running parallel to Seven Mile Bridge. Pigeon Key started out as a camp for workers on the railroad. It is now a museum and tourist attraction. Yet I see permanent residents there all the time. The long stretch of the old US1 roadway is great for joggers, bikers, and walkers, or is that hikers? Bring your camera, because there is so much to photograph besides pictures of yourself and family. Visit and enjoy the great museum too.

There are no beaches here like you would expect a little way up north. You know, the white, sandy beaches with crystal clear water. Any sand in the Keys is usually placed there, but there are spots where some sand is natural. There isn't a lot though. Veterans Memorial Beach at the west end of Seven Mile Bridge is well developed with restrooms, picnic areas, plenty of parking, and a nice wading type of beach. This is a great place to spend a whole day in the hot sun. Make sure to use some sun block though. The sun is murder for the unprotected. Closer to Marathon is the Sombrero Beach. It is close to the high school and located on the Vaca Key peninsula. This beach has a small strip of sand and even some grass. It is well maintained with picnic areas and restrooms. It is in from the ocean, more bay water than anything else. It is popular and busy most times. The water is not always clear, but it is still loads of fun. You can see all the pleasure boats coming in and out. Wouldn't it be wonderful to own one of those million-dollar homes with a boat pier right in the front yard? A million-dollar yacht tied up to the pier? Sigh...

So many people ask me about the fishing and the golfing. Well, I am very sorry indeed, but I am not a fisher or golfer. I am the sun soaker, the occasional swimmer, the jogger, and downright Florida Keys lover. But, of course, the Keys is world class for fishing of almost any kind and golf courses seem to flourish on every small island. So even fishers and golfers would love it here in the Keys. Can't you tell that I just love living here in the fabulous and delightful Florida Keys? Well, of course, I really, really do notwithstanding the high cost of living here. So come visit and have fun.
