Larry's Hobbies
and Interests, Supposedly
My cats meow at me that I am a dull person. They do admit that I usually never
fail to feed them on time. Kitty GreyCat's hobbies and interest were wide
ranging and fairly consistent. She liked to hunt and eat live critters.
Disgusting but true. (Kitty died July 9, 1997, having reached the age of 15.)
Ebony BlackCat's hobbies and interests are developing at a rapid pace. Her
single most fun thing was to chase and jump on Kitty. This was the true meaning
of cat fights. Our newest addition is Abraxas WhiteCat. In any case, if you are
looking at this page, you must be curious. So read on. And, if you will, please
sign our guestbook by clicking on the dartboard up above.
No, I don't care for darts. I do like hockey. I
had season tickets to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Florida for two wonderful
seasons. I liked the weather and the beaches too. Now I live in Marathon, a
little city right in the middle of the Florida Keys. We are in paradise!
Besides trying to write novels and poetry, I am an avid computer enthusiast. I
have ChessMaster version 6. I try to play a game daily, but time seems to run
out so fast. It is unbelievable that now I am retired from the US Navy after 25
years, I am busier than ever. I like to read really big novels, mostly SF
(Science Fiction) and Civil War. I enjoy visiting old battlegrounds. Don't let
my cats know, but I love my cats and anyone else's cats too. Kittens are
wonderful and funny, although my Ebony and Abby are no longer kittens. I especially enjoy nature and the outdoors.
My greatest interest and hobby is my
grandchildren, my children, my nieces and one nephew, and family in general.
There is nothing better than having a young grandchild call you grandpa. I have
a grandson that signs it also. I have eight grandsons and two granddaughters
with more grandchildren on the way.
One of my grandsons talks in English and sings in Spanish. I think it is
wonderful if you can speak more than one language. I even have great
grandchildren now. I don't know if you could call it a hobby, but
I like to jog. In 1996 I jogged, hiked, or biked over 2000 miles. I really
enjoy hiking. Everything slows down and you can enjoy life. Nature trails are
great. There is a trail at the Pinellas County Park in Florida. The trails are
interesting and full of lush vegetation. One thing of concern though are the
signs warning of alligators or crocs. I can't remember which; maybe it was both!
I can bike on the trails made for that purpose in Florida during the winter and
West Virginia during the summer. I like to really work up a sweat. That is why
I very much enjoy hot weather. I especially treasure jogging in the hot
weather. I can jog anywhere: sidewalks, trails, along the roads, and so on.
Just have to watch out for the "Forest! Forest!" taunt. I used to have a
beard and long hair (in a ponytail.) 1997 in the Florida Keys I used the
bike trail mostly. I really enjoy swimming at the pool in the dead of winter.
In 1998 I have gone back to running and not as much biking or hiking. Oh, I
lost the beard and long hair. It was too much work! In 1999 and 2000 I am back
running almost five miles each day in the wonderful Florida Keys. During most of
2001 I have been swimming a mile every day. 2002 and 2003 I have been
doing a lot of boating and snorkeling. I love to walk too, but jogging is still
enjoyable. In 2004, I still go boating and snorkeling often. I work part time
too. Kitty GreyCat was interested in boids (you know,
birds), mice, squirrels, snakes, and gecko lizards. Her hobby was to tenderize
them by throwing them up in the air and bouncing their heads off the cement.
She was gruesome, I know! She loved to take catnaps and eat catnip. Kitty
catnapped in the oddest places. And she liked to eat fresh catnip and roll in
it. Kitty is now at RainBow Bridge. Ebony BlackCat likes all critters and would
really like to taste one of those pesky squirrels who keep screeching at her.
She has a thing for running water and draining water. She loves watching the
action in the sink and the toilets. Showers were fun, until my youngest son gave her a
bath one day. Ebony crossed that one off her hobby and interest list. Ebony
likes to watch TV and the animations on the computer. She keeps looking on the
side to see where those moving things go. She paws the screen, but is leery of
static electricity. That makes her jump three feet high. She is incredible!
Abraxas (Abby) WhiteCat loves to play with Ebony to get her running, hissing,
and phfffting. Both cats give out their own awards, have their own email
addresses, and enjoy conversing on bulletin boards with other cats and human
beans. Now wasn't that boring or what?
I enjoy all kinds of music and have quite an
extensive collection of CDs. My 45s wore out with the LP albums. My many
cassettes continue to wear out as we speak. But CDs have never failed me. I
also have a big collection of videos. I like a great movie. My favorite movie
is Gettysburg. I have a small collection of books too. I like Frank
Herbert, Stephen King, Andre Norton, James Michener, Hemingway, and many
others. I suppose my collection of computer equipment and software could be
considered a hobby and/or an interest.
I think we should add the Internet to my
hobbies and interests. I spend a lot of time maintaining my websites. I answer
lots of email. The cats answer more email than I get. They are so popular,
and I am so jealous. Collecting friends on the web is a great pastime too. I
enjoy seeing the artist come out in ordinary people. My writing of novels and
poetry has fit into my Internet interests quite well. I am able to expose my
new writings to a larger initial audience before actual publication. My hobbies
and interests have changed slowly as time goes on in the different stages of
life. I would really like to live in a yacht down here in the Florida Keys. I
guess I had better get busy and write a few best sellers. Then I can get that
yacht! Speaking of a yacht, I did get a boat. I go boating every day there is
sunshine. There is a lot of fun on my boat, let me tell you!
